We've decided to go ahead and list the Beethovern 1/1 Hair Relic for sale on eBay.  However, while we realize most of our regular customers may not have a chance to buy that card, we still wanted to find a way to spread the feeling that we got when pulling this card--so we decided to do a giveaway promotion tied to the sale of the card.

The Ebay auction is scheduled to end on July 18, 2010--so between now and close of business on Friday the 16th, every purchase of over $20 in our store--online or in person--will result in that customer getting one guess at what the final price of the auction will be.

The person with the closest guess will win one free box of 2010 Allen & Ginter.

Tuesday, July 6th started like a lot of other days at the shop--Red Bull in hand to make up for a lack of sleep, opening the shop after the holiday weekend.

On the positive side, our latest case of 2010 Allen & Ginter arrived--our initial shipment being completely sold out through pre-sales, I went through the regular routine of stocking the shelf, and just to have some samples on hand for when people start coming in, I cracked one box, and grabbed one pack.

Flipped through the cards, and noticed that there was a hit--took a quick look, and realized I had pulled a Beethoven relic card.  Initially I thought it was a piece of a jacket or shirt, based on the color--it wasn't until I read the back and noticed a reference to hair that I realized that I had pulled a DNA relic--one of the 10 big 1/1 hits from the set, and the one featured on the side of the box!

Not only had I managed to hit a 1 in 200,000 pack, I did so with the only pack I intended to open from the box.

There was no one in the shop, and my wife was at home asleep, so I had no one to tell, no one to celebrate with--at the same time, I was kind of freaking out.  So I called a couple of the regulars, and told them I had something they had to see.

Curiosity got the best of them, and shortly two walked in together.  Being the first people in the shop, I asked them to verify that there were 11 sealed boxes on the shelf, and still 23 packs in the box laying on the counter. They confirmed, and then I showed them what I had pulled.

I ended up opening the rest of the box, as I felt it would be unfair to sell packs from a box where the hit had already been pulled--obviously nothing that significant to report from the rest, compared to the Beethoven. 

It's what I can only imagine will be a once in a lifetime pull for me--but definitely not for the store.  Hopefully there will be plenty more of those to come.

Topps has released more details regarding Stephen Strasburg’s 2010 Allen & Ginter rookie cards. Contrary to some of the initial speculation by collectors, his primary rookie card is base mini (#401) rookie card falls at the same rate as every other base mini card in the product. The difference between Strasburg and the other subjects in the base mini set is that Strasburg’s card does not have any parallels (Allen & Ginter Back, Black Bordered, No Number, Bazooka Back, Silk, Wood and Printing Plate) like the others do.

Strasburg's second and only other card in the set is an autograph, which Topps says was inserted on a limited basis. They can be found via redemption and one (along with a copy of every other autograph in 2010 Allen & Ginter) will be given to the person who cracks this year’s Ginter Code.

Topps announced the player redeemable for the 2010 Topps Finest Baseball Rookie Redemption #6 is none other than ultra-phenom Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals!

Throughout the 2010 Major League Baseball season, Topps will announce the subjects for the 10-card Rookie Redemption set.  Each Master Box of Topps Finest includes one Rookie Redemption.  In addition, collectors can also find redemptions for Blue Refractors (#’d to 199) and Gold Refractors (#’d to 50) versions.
